Nadjma Yassari PictureNadjma Yassari is professor of law (University of Hamburg, Germany) and head of the research group “Changes in God’s Law: An Inner-Islamic Comparison of Family and Succession Laws”, at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law in Hamburg. With her team she explores the evolution of the notion of family within various communities in the Middle East. Furthermore, she provides European courts that have to apply foreign law with expert opinions on Middle Eastern law. Her books include Die Brautgabe im Familienvermögensrecht (2016) a comparative survey on the Islamic mahr and the co-edited volumes, Filiation and the Protection of Parentless Children (2019) and Normativity and Diversity in Family Law (2022).
